The report dives deep into the nitty-gritty of India’s gaming world, showing off some pretty amazing numbers and patterns that give you a clear picture of how this industry’s booming. 

The Exceptional Growth of the Gaming Industry

The gaming scene in India has gone through some crazy growth in the past few years. 

According to Niko Partners, the overall range of game enthusiasts in India is projected to increase by a remarkable 343% between 2017 and 2027, soaring to a staggering 641.2 million by 2027

This surge is not limited to gamers alone; video game revenue is on an upward trajectory as well, with a forecasted 21% year-over-year increase in 2023, reaching an impressive $868 million.

Several key factors are fueling this gaming revolution in India. Rising disposable income levels (income that is used for spending) among the population are enabling more people to access and enjoy gaming. 

At the same time, the big spread of the internet all over the place is bringing gamers together, even in far-off spots, and plugging them into the gaming universe. 

What’s more, affordable smartphones are making gamers numbers doable for lots more people, from all kinds of backgrounds.

India vs. China: A Rivalry in the Gaming Industry

One striking aspect of this report is its focus on India and China, the heavyweight players in the Asian gaming arena.

In 2017, India had 144.9 million gamers, while China boasted 605.2 million. However, fast-forward to 2027, and India is all set to overtake its neighbor with 641.2 million gamers, showcasing an astounding 343% growth rate. 

In contrast, China’s gamer base is also growing but at a more moderate 21% rate.

Another statistic reveals that India is predominantly a mobile gaming market, with a massive 96.8% of gamers playing on smartphones and tablets.

In-game Spending and Esports Engagement

Around 31% of all gamers in India are willing to spend money on video gaming

This here spells out a big deal for in-game purchases and making money plans. Plus, a whopping 71.8% of gamers are all into esports, which means there’s some serious action happening in this up-and-coming area.

Now, when we talk about big games like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Free Fire making a comeback, that’s some good news for the gaming world. 

It’s gonna attract game folks from here and abroad who wanna get in on the Indian action. According to the report, India’s gaming cash flow, no matter where you’re playing, will hit $868 million in 2023

And guess what? It’s set to climb up to $1.6 billion by 2027, with a fancy 17.2% growth rate over 5 years

At the same time, the gamer squad is gonna swell to a massive 641.2 million by 2027, growing at a 10.1% rate over 5 years.
