Skyesports Championship 6.0 2024: BGMI Returns with Open Qualifiers and LAN Finals

Skyesports Championship 2024 BGMI

Skyesports, a prominent Indian esports tournament organizer, has announced the return of the Skyesports Championship for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in 2024.

Since its launch in 2019, this event has become India’s longest-running homegrown esports IP, giving gamers across the country a platform to compete in the ever-evolving world of BGMI.

Here’s what participants and fans can expect in the 2024 edition, from registration to event schedules.

BGMI Skyesports Championship 2024: Schedule

  • Open qualifiers for aspiring players
  • LAN finals at Koramangala Indoor Stadium, Bangalore (December 14-15, 2024)
  • Focus on grassroots talent development through the “Path To Pro” initiative

With a focus on nurturing talent, Skyesports Championship 2024 lives up to its “Path To Pro” slogan, providing aspiring players with open qualifiers as a first step toward professional esports.

These qualifiers offer a chance for new players to make their mark, leading up to an intense LAN event on December 14-15, 2024, at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore.

Registration for the BGMI Skyesports Championship 2024 is now open through the Skyesports Discord Server, allowing players aged 16 and older residing in India to form teams and sign up for a chance to compete.

Skyesports and KRAFTON Partnership for 2024

Commenting on the tournament’s return, Skyesports Founder and CEO, Shiva Nandy, expressed excitement over bringing the Skyesports Championship back in collaboration with BGMI’s developer, KRAFTON. Nandy said,

“We are thrilled to bring back the Skyesports Championship in 2024, working closely with KRAFTON to bring pure esports and a #PathToPro for BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) players. The Skyesports Championship continues to be a cornerstone of the Indian esports ecosystem, providing a platform for emerging talent to shine on the national stage.”

After a brief disruption in 2022 due to BGMI’s removal from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the Skyesports Championship made a successful return in 2023. The 2023 event, held at the same Koramangala Indoor Stadium, attracted over 12,000 fans across three days, where Blind Esports ultimately claimed the title. Esports Charts reported that last year’s championship attracted over 62,000 peak viewers and amassed over 5 million hours of watch time, with a prize pool of 12.5 million INR (roughly £115,000).

Skyesports Championship 3.0, held in 2021, still holds the record as the most-watched third-party BGMI esports event. In a memorable moment, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar presented the winning trophy to Godlike Esports.

Skyesports has also organized numerous other BGMI tournaments this year. Notably, the 2024 Skyesports Champions Series in February-March saw WSB Gaming emerge victorious, followed by Global Esports taking the crown in the Skyesports Mobile Open 2024 in March-April. However, The Skyesports League 2024, a city-based BGMI circuit planned for Mumbai, was later canceled.

Other Major Tournaments by Skyesports

Skyesports has also tapped into new games, holding three events for “THE FINALS.” The most recent, THE FINALS League, concluded with The Bengaluru Starbusters winning this IPL-inspired competition, showcasing a new level of local esports engagement.

Earlier this year, Skyesports also organized the Skyesports Championship for Counter-Strike 2 in Mumbai, offering a prize pool of INR 2.9 crore, highlighting its continued efforts to broaden its esports offerings.

Skyesports’ growing list of partnerships with brands such as 1xBET, EA Sports, and Oddin.gg further supports its expanding role in India’s dynamic esports industry.

According to the State of India Gaming Report 2023 by Lumikai and Google, India’s gaming industry generated $3.1 billion in FY23 and is expected to grow to $7.5 billion by FY28, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20%.

Additionally, data from Niko Partners shows that India has 453 million gamers in 2023, making it the second-largest gaming market globally after China. By 2028, India is projected to surpass China, with an estimated 730 million gamers.
