Netflix has officially set December 17 as the release date for its highly anticipated mobile game, Squid Game: Unleashed.
Inspired by the record-breaking Korean drama-thriller Squid Game, which captivated audiences worldwide in 2021, the game promises to deliver a bloody and competitive gaming experience.
It will be available on the Netflix app, App Store, and Play Store, with pre-registration now open for eager players.
The game’s release is strategically timed just days ahead of the December 26 premiere of Squid Game Season 2, which will see the return of Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun (Player 456).
A Sneak Peek Into Squid Game: Unleashed
The announcement came alongside a new trailer, showcasing a chaotic and violent gameplay style. Unlike the live-action show, the game features a cartoonish aesthetic, but it doesn’t shy away from graphic content. The trailer reveals player characters meeting brutal fates, including being flattened by buses, crushed by wrecking balls, and sliced apart by buzz saws. The latest footage highlights bloodier visuals, with deaths marked by striking red splat effects.
The gameplay revolves around a series of high-stakes challenges inspired by the original show, alongside new twists on classic childhood games. It is designed for up to 32 players, combining the tension and excitement of popular battle royale games like Fortnite and Fall Guys. Players compete to claim a virtual prize pool of 45.6 billion Korean won, echoing the show’s dramatic stakes.
Players can also customize their avatars with various outfits, animations, and emojis, making their experience both competitive and personalized. Additionally, power-ups and weapons add an extra layer of strategy, enabling players to gain an advantage over their rivals.
