Spider-Man 2 Won’t Receive Story DLC, PC Port Arrives January 2025

Spider-Man 2 PS5

Game developer Insomniac has confirmed that there will be no additional story DLC for its popular 2023 release, Spider-Man 2. This decision has left many fans disappointed, especially those who were hoping for more content or expansions featuring new adventures for their favorite characters.

Spider-Man 2, which initially launched on PlayStation 5 to widespread acclaim, is set to debut on PC on January 30, 2025—just 15 months after its console release. This quick turnaround marks one of the shortest waits for a PlayStation-exclusive title to become available on PC.

However, fans who expected a DLC announcement alongside the news of the PC port will be let down. According to Aaron Jason Espinoza, Insomniac’s senior community manager, there are “no plans” for any further story expansions for Spider-Man 2 on either PS5 or PC.

Fans of the Spider-Man series may recall that the first game by Insomniac received three additional DLC episodes known collectively as “The City That Never Sleeps.” This DLC provided players with hours of extra gameplay and a chance to delve deeper into Spider-Man’s story. However, Insomniac’s 2020 spin-off game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, did not receive any DLC content. Many fans were still hopeful that Spider-Man 2 would bring more, potentially featuring more storylines involving Venom. With Insomniac now focusing on upcoming projects, including a confirmed Wolverine game and an unannounced X-Men game, it’s clear that the studio is moving forward. Reports even suggest that a Spider-Man 3 could be in early planning stages.

While there won’t be any story DLC, Insomniac to bring “all of previously released post-launch content to the PC version,” said Espinoza. This content will be availble in two editions for PC: Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition (DDE).

  • The Standard Edition includes the full game and post-launch updates, such as 12 new suits, New Game+ mode, and ultimate difficulty levels.
  • The Digital Deluxe Edition offers additional exclusive content, including five unique suits each for Peter Parker and Miles Morales, early unlocks for key suits, a new gadget, and bonus skill points.

The PC port is being developed by Nixxes Software, a subsidiary of PlayStation Studios, renowned for their outstanding PC conversion work on the last two Spider-Man games. Mike Fitzgerald, Core Technology Director at Insomniac, has praised their work, stating:

“Our team put a lot of love into this game, and we’re excited that it will soon be enjoyed by a whole new audience with keyboard and mouse controls, ultra widescreen support, and numerous graphical options that make it feel at home on their platform.”

This quick PC release window for Spider-Man 2 suggests Sony’s growing dedication to PC gaming. Following successful ports of games like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn, this strategy appears to be paying off, potentially indicating faster PC releases for future PlayStation exclusives.
