Astro Bot Slips to 4th in UK Sales Charts in 2nd Week

Team Asobi’s highly praised 3D platformer Astro Bot has slipped from its top spot in the UK sales charts.

In just its second week, the lovable robot has found itself in fourth place, overtaken by some heavy hitters in the gaming world.

Who Dethroned Astro Bot?

According to GFK Charts (via pierre485), the new champion of the UK charts is none other than Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Launching on September 9th, this action-packed sequel has stormed to the number one position in both the all-formats and PS5 boxed charts for the week ending September 15th.

But Space Marine 2 wasn’t the only title to surpass Astro Bot. The Hogwarts Legacy and Elden Ring also managed to edge out the platformer in overall sales.

Despite the slip in rankings, it’s worth noting that Astro Bot’s initial performance was impressive. The game launched on September 6th and managed to secure the top spot in the charts within a single day. In contrast, Space Marine 2 had a full five days to climb to its current position.

Earlier this week, Christopher Dring from Gamesindustry.biz, offered some encouraging words on Twitter/X:

“Astro Bot’s UK launch is solid. First week sales are 21% higher than the debut of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in 2021.”

For context, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has reportedly sold over 4 million units worldwide, according to leaked data from Insomniac Games.

Other markets have also shown a mixed picture. In Japan, for instance, Astro Bot sold 12,700 copies at retail during its first week which dropped to only 8,882 sales in the second week. However, this figure doesn’t account for digital sales, which are likely to add significantly to the overall total.

In the U.S., Astro Bot also performed better than many anticipated. Mat Piscatella, Circana’s executive director, shared on Bluesky that for the week ending September 7th, Astro Bot ranked second in unit sales (both physical and digital), trailing only behind NBA 2K25, a popular sports game.

The decline of Astro Bot comes during a challenging time for PlayStation fans, particularly after the collapse of Concord and the growing dissatisfaction with live service games. Many PlayStation fans are hoping that Astro Bot would prove the value of single-player experiences, especially for more niche titles.

Looking ahead, Sony recently announced its return to the Tokyo Game Show, where Astro Bot and the PS5 Pro will be the main attractions at its booth. This could potentially boost sales in Japan, giving the game another chance to shine.
