In a heartbreaking incident, a 15-year-old boy named Arya Srirao passed away after allegedly being influenced by the dangerous “Blue Whale” game.
Arya, a class 10 student from Pune, India, jumped from the 14th floor of a building, leaving behind a note with the cryptic word “logout” written on it.
What Happened?
According to the Pune police reports, Arya had become increasingly addicted to online games in recent months. He spent long hours on his laptop, isolating himself from family and friends.
After investigation, Police found a note left by him that mentioned words like “logout” and “XD,” which might refer to the online game he was involved in.
In further investigation, the police found a notebook in Arya’s room containing maps of his house, strange notes in code, a list of players, and a mention of a multiplayer combat game.
One of the sketches showed his apartment and the gallery, indicating the spot where he needed to jump.
The police are still investigating to determine the exact reasons behind his decision to end his life.
Cyber experts are also joining in the investigation, as Arya’s devices were password-protected, making it difficult for police to access his online activities.
Statements from Family
Arya’s father, Umesh Srirao, expressed his deep sorrow and urged parents to be more attentive to their children’s activities, especially online. He mentioned that Arya had been hiding things from his parents for months and had deleted the search history on his laptop.
His mother, Swati Srirao, shared her disbelief over the incident, saying, “Arya was a boy who hesitated to talk and was afraid to jump even from a low height, yet he jumped from the 14th floor.” She learned about her son’s death through a WhatsApp group message from their residential society.
Concerns About the Blue Whale Game
This tragic event has brought the Blue Whale game back into the spotlight. The game, which gained notoriety worldwide in 2017, is often referred to as a “suicide game.” It allegedly involves a series of tasks assigned to players over 50 days, ending with a challenge to commit suicide.
The first known victim of the Blue Whale challenge in India was a 14-year-old boy from Mumbai in July 2017, who also died by jumping from the building.
The game has been linked to over 100 deaths globally, including in countries like Russia, Ukraine, India, and the United States.
Recently, the death of Indian student Paruchuri Abhijit, a 20-year-old engineering student at the University of Massachusetts, USA, was also linked to the Blue Whale Challenge.
Experts warn parents about the dangers of online games and emphasize the importance of open communication with their children about internet safety.
