What if I told you there’s a way to supercharge your Xbox Cloud Gaming experience? A new third-party extension called “Better xCloud” promises to do just that, and it’s even endorsed by Microsoft!
What Is Better xCloud?
Better xCloud is an open-source tool that adds a bunch of cool new features to Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud).
It’s essentially a mod or extension that unlocks capabilities Microsoft hasn’t officially supported yet.
What Can Better xCloud Do for Me?
The list of enhancements is quite impressive. Here are some of the key highlights:
Enable Local Co-Op Gaming
- One of the biggest draws is the ability to play local co-op games over the cloud. Xbox Cloud Gaming doesn’t natively support this, but Better xCloud makes it possible on certain titles.
Use Mouse and Keyboard Controls
- Not a huge fan of gaming with a controller? Better xCloud lets you activate mouse and keyboard support for compatible xCloud games.
Access Remote Play Through Browser
- Normally you’d need a console for Remote Play, but this mod brings that functionality right to your browser window.
Enhanced Visual Quality
- The extension can bump up streaming resolution to 1080p and apply a “Clarity Boost” for even sharper visuals.
That’s just scratching the surface too. Other perks include custom touch controls, stat overlays, screenshot capture, and more.
Is Using Better xCloud Safe and Allowed?
While unofficial mods always carry a degree of risk, the creator claims Microsoft has endorsed Better xCloud in the past.
They also state that “xCloud devs confirmed they ‘don’t ban people for using a third party client or extension’.”
That said, you’ll still want to exercise some caution. The disclaimer advises using Better xCloud “at your own risk” since it’s not an official Microsoft product.
How Do I Get It?
Glad you’re interested! Getting set up is pretty straightforward:
- Head over to the Better xCloud GitHub repository.
- Download the version compatible with your device (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, etc.)
Keep in mind that since this is an unofficial tool, you may need to dig around a bit to configure everything just right.
