Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has been announced as the exclusive esports title for women’s competition for the upcoming Asian Esports Games (AEG) 2024.
The event, scheduled for November 25-27 in Bangkok, Thailand, marks a significant milestone in competitive gaming’s push toward greater “inclusivity”.
What Makes This Tournament Historic?
For the first time in esports history, 20 regional women’s teams from diverse geographical regions – including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East – will compete in a major international tournament.
Notable teams will come from countries with established esports communities, such as Thailand, Indonesia, China, and the Philippines, while emerging teams from Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Nepal will also make their debut.
Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games, highlighted the importance of this event:
“The representation of 20 regions in the MLBB women’s tournament exemplifies our commitment to diversity.”
Why is Thailand a Significant Host for AEG 2024?
Thailand’s selection as the host nation carries strategic importance:
- Demonstrates the country’s growing influence in regional esports
- Serves as a precursor to hosting the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in 2025
- Receives strong backing from the Sports Authority of Thailand
- Positions Bangkok as a central hub for competitive gaming
Santi Lothong, President of the Thailand Esports Federation (TESF), expressed his pride:
“We are proud to organize the Asian Esports Games and support the growth of women’s esports through the exclusive MLBB competition. This event showcases not only the talent of female players but also Thailand’s dedication to fostering a vibrant esports ecosystem.”
Align With MLBB’s Broader Strategy
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has shown impressive expansion throughout 2024:
- Expanded partnership with Qiddiya (Saudi Arabia’s Entertainment Megaproject) for global ecosystem development (June 2024)
- Selection as headline title for 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok
These initiatives show MOONTON Games’ focus on expanding MLBB’s influence and building a more inclusive community.
