Riot Games Announces TFT Macau Open 2024: What You Need to Know About This Massive Esports Event

TFT Macau Open 2024

Are you ready for the biggest Teamfight Tactics event of the year? Riot Games has announced the TFT Macau Open, set to take place from December 13-15, 2024.

With a massive 512-player open bracket tournament, pros and amateurs will compete for their share of the $300,000 prize pool, the coveted Tactician’s Belt, and the prestigious Macau Open title.

Let’s dive into the details!

What Makes TFT Macau Open Special?

Following the success of the first-ever open-bracket tournament in over a decade, “the TFT Vegas Open” in December 2023, Riot Games is taking its convention-style esports event to the next level.

Unlike other tournaments the TFT Open aims to create a broader experience for fans, combining esports with community-focused activities.

So other than Esports, attendees will witness:

  1. Developer panels
  2. Meet and greets with TFT personalities
  3. Cosplay events
  4. Side events for both competitors and spectators

Additionally, the TFT Open marks the beginning of Riot’s new esports season, leading to the Tactician’s Trials (regional) and Tactician’s Crown (international).

How Will the Tournament Be Structured?

The tournament will follow an updated format based on feedback from the Vegas Open:

  1. Six rounds of competition over three days
  2. Initial seeding based on Set 12 (Magic n’ Mayhem) ranking
  3. Re-seeding after each round using a snake draft system
  4. Top four finishers in each lobby advance to the next round

Here’s the round-by-round schedule and format breakdown:

  • Round 1 (December 13): 512 players compete in 3 games.
  • Round 2 (December 13): Top 256 players advance, playing 3 more games.
  • Round 3 (December 13): 128 players move forward, competing in 3 additional games.
  • Round 4 (December 14): The remaining 64 players play 3 games.
  • Round 5 (December 14): Top 32 players battle it out in 3 more games.
  • Round 6 (December 14): 16 players continue, playing 4 games.
  • Finals (December 15): The top 8 players compete in a checkmate format, where the first to earn 20 points and win a round is crowned the champion.

What is the Prize Pool?

The TFT Macau Open boasts a total prize pool of $300,000, with the champion walking away with a hefty $100,000.

The top 128 players will receive their share of the prize money, making the competition fierce and rewarding.
