Rockstar Games has announced that the Rockstar Editor will no longer be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5 starting February 20, 2024.
This marks the end of an era for the groundbreaking video editing tool that allowed players to create and share their own gameplay videos.
Why is Rockstar Removing the Editor?
In a statement, Rockstar explained that removing the Editor on PS4 and Xbox One is necessary to allow the studio to continue supporting GTA 5 with updates on those platforms.
Essentially, it comes down to technical limitations and the developer needing to free up resources.
With the Editor no longer supported, what does this mean for players’ existing projects?
Export Your Videos Before It’s Too Late
The bad news is that any videos currently saved in the Editor on PS4 and Xbox One will be deleted when the tool is removed on February 20.
So if you want to preserve clips and projects you’ve created, the time to export them is now!
Fortunately, Rockstar has provided instructions on how players can export videos to YouTube before the Editor shuts down:
- Open the Rockstar Editor and go to the Video Gallery
- Select the project you want to export
- Choose “Upload to YouTube” and accept the terms
- Confirm the video title and description
- Select Upload
Once the video is exported to your linked YouTube account, it will remain available on YouTube.
Just be sure to get it done before February 20!
What’s Next for the Editor?
While it’s the end of the road for the Editor on aging PS4 and Xbox One hardware, Rockstar emphasizes that the tool will continue to be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
So next-gen console and PC players can rest easy knowing they can still unleash their creativity with the Editor.
However, last-gen users are encouraged to savor their remaining weeks with this powerful creation suite.
