Dragon’s Dogma 2 Gameplay Leaks: What Did We Learn?

Last week, a streamer going by named Justichor broadcasted several hours of early Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay footage on Twitch

Surprisingly, This leak came just about a week before the action RPG’s March 22nd launch date

Capcom swiftly took action, issuing a copyright strike to get the channel banned from Twitch. But not before curious fans got a sneak peek at the highly anticipated sequel.

How Did the Leak Happen?

The leaker claimed to have obtained an early copy from a friend working at Walmart

They broadcasted the PS5 version by using the console’s built-in streaming functionality

While not providing the best quality, it gave players an early look at Dragon’s Dogma 2’s gameplay.

So How Does It Run on PS5?

A major concern from the leaked footage was the game’s performance on consoles.

Frame rates appeared to dip below 30fps frequently during open-world combat on PS5.

The performance seemed smoother in city areas without battles but still didn’t reach a steady 60fps

However, it’s difficult to make definitive judgments without knowing the exact specs the leakers were running on. The quality of console streaming can also look worse than native play.

What New Features Were Shown?

Despite the suboptimal quality, the leak offered some insights into new gameplay systems.

  • To travel the open world, players can hop into ox carts for a fast travel system, though the service is unavailable at night to avoid attacks.
  • Leveling up vocations like the Thief class also seemed quite fast-paced compared to the original game.
  • While staying faithful to the first game’s medieval fantasy aesthetic, environments appeared more diverse and densely populated with points of interest.
  • Fans spotted idyllic countryside villages alongside foreboding, monolithic ruins and structures.
  • In general, combat mechanics appeared faithful to the first Dragon’s Dogma, rewarding strategic approaches to exploit enemy weaknesses.
  • Some viewers noted the camera controls felt more refined as well.

So Should I Be Hyped or Not?

Look, a messy leak from an unverified source is far from ideal for judging a game’s quality.

The poor stream quality and lack of context make it difficult to draw such conclusions.

My advice? Keep an open mind, wait for proper reviews from credible sources, and form your opinions then.

After all, it’s been a decade since the last game – I’m sure Capcom has put in the work to make this sequel great!
