Capcom, the renowned Japanese video game developer and publisher, has recently announced a significant upward revision of its full-year earnings forecast for the year ending March 31, 2024.
The company has raised its net sales forecast by an impressive 8.9% to 152.4 billion yen (appx. £783 million), while its net income forecast has been boosted by 8.3 % to 43.3 billion yen (appx. £222 million).
How Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Street Fighter 6 Drove Capcom’s Success?
The primary reasons behind the company’s forecast revision are the resounding successes of two of its recent game releases:
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Street Fighter 6
Despite controversies surrounding microtransactions and performance issues, particularly on PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 became the largest launch for a single-player game by Capcom on Steam, boasting a peak of 228,585 concurrent players.
According to Capcom, Dragon’s Dogma 2 “performed favorably” in the market while Street Fighter 6 received “broad acclaim globally.”
While exact sales figures for Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Street Fighter 6 were not provided, Capcom did share some insights before about its top-selling franchises.
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 sold an impressive 2.5 million copies in under two weeks, contributing to the series’ overall sales of over 10 million units.
- Meanwhile, Street Fighter 6 has already reached 3 million sales since its launch in June 2023.
The Steady Popularity of Capcom’s Catalogue Titles
While the new releases stole the spotlight, Capcom’s catalogue titles also played a major role in this financial success.
The company’s statement highlighted the “steady popularity” of past titles from major series, contributing significantly to the overall sales growth.
Franchises like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil continue to captivate audiences worldwide, as evidenced by their inclusion in Capcom’s list of top-selling Platinum Titles.
