NCSOFT and Amazon Games have announced that their new free-to-play, massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), THRONE AND LIBERTY, has garnered over 3 million players globally in the first week.
On October 7, the game’s global publisher Amazon Games made this announcement on their official website.
The game has already racked up impressive numbers, with players collectively spending over 24 million hours in the game’s world.
It also became one of the most-played titles on Steam, reaching a peak of over 336,300 concurrent players just days after its release, as per SteamDB.
Additionally, Throne and Liberty content has gained more than 11 million hours of viewership on the popular streaming platform Twitch.
Christoph Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games, expressed his excitement about the game’s early success. He said:
“We’re so pleased to see the results as players join the game. We’re only getting started, and we have a series of updates planned including our first castle siege coming soon.”
Taekjin Kim, CEO of NCSOFT, adds:
“We are excited to see the countless stories and challenges our global fans are already creating. We remain dedicated to delivering a high-quality game that players will cherish for many years to come.”
About THRONE AND LIBERTY
Throne and Liberty was originally part of the popular Lineage series and was initially announced as Lineage Eternal in 2011. However, the game underwent several delays and changes throughout its development process.
After a closed beta in South Korea in 2016, the game was renamed Project TL in 2017, before finally being branded Throne and Liberty in 2022.
The game officially launched on October 1, 2024, across multiple regions, including North and South America, Europe, Oceania, and Japan.
It is available on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Throne and Liberty has received positive reviews from critics, earning a score of 75/100 on the review aggregator Metacritic.
Despite its success, Throne and Liberty has faced challenges, particularly with bot accounts. The game’s developers are actively addressing the issue by banning accounts suspected of using bots and promising ongoing efforts to maintain a fair player experience.
