Capcom, the company behind Resident Evil, has been bringing more of their big games to Apple’s devices lately. We’ve already seen Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil 7 on iPhones and iPads. Now, it’s Resident Evil 2’s turn to join the mobile party!

According to a report from Siliconera, the Resident Evil 2 Remake is set to release on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices on December 31, 2024. This will mark the fourth Resident Evil game to be brought to Apple’s platform, further expanding Capcom’s presence in the mobile gaming world.

In case you’ve forgotten, the Resident Evil 2 remake came out in 2019. It’s a fresh take on the original game from 1998. Critics and players loved it, giving it high scores on review sites like Metacritic (91) and OpenCritic (92).

Which Device It Supports?

Before you get too excited, let’s talk about what you’ll need to play:

  • For iPad and Mac users: You’ll need a device with at least an M1 chip.
  • For iPhone users: You’ll need an iPhone 16 or newer.

Not sure if your device can handle it? Don’t worry! There’s a free demo you can try before buying the full game.

If you have more than one Apple device, there’s good news. The game will be linked to your Apple ID so that you can play it on all your devices.

While Resident Evil 2 will feature touch controls for its mobile version, the game listing recommends using a controller for the best experience, particularly for those playing on an iPad.

A Hit on Consoles, But How About Mobile?

The Resident Evil 2 Remake has been a massive success on consoles and PC, selling an impressive 13.9 million copies across various platforms as of May 2024. It’s even become Capcom’s best-selling game, surpassing titles like Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 7.

However, it’s worth noting that not all Resident Evil games have performed well on mobile. For instance, the iOS port of Resident Evil 7, released in June 2024, struggled, selling fewer than 2,000 copies by July, at a $20 price tag, as reported by Mobilegamer.biz.

So, will Resident Evil 2 fare better on mobile? That remains to be seen. The price for the game hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s expected to be similar to the launch price of Resident Evil 7. We’ll just have to wait and see how it performs in the mobile market!
