Paradox’s 3D Sim Game Prison Architect 2 Delayed Again

Paradox Interactive, a well-known game publisher, has been facing a rough patch recently. The company was hit with a series of setbacks, including the cancellation of “Life by You” and the troubled launch of “Cities Skylines 2.” These issues have led to significant financial losses for the publisher.

Now, another of their anticipated titles, “Prison Architect 2,” has joined the list of problematic projects.

Slated for release on September 3rd this year, “Prison Architect 2” has now been delayed yet again. Announced in January 2024, the game was originally going to be released on March 26. However, it was first delayed in March, followed by another delay in April.

In a detailed statement on their blog, Paradox explained the reasons behind this latest delay. The company cited feedback from recent tests and beta sessions, which highlighted areas that need more attention. The main focus will be on improving the game’s performance and content. Paradox emphasized its commitment to delivering a high-quality experience to players, stating that the current version of the game doesn’t meet their desired standards for a sequel.

Given the history of postponements, Paradox has decided not to announce a new release date at this time. They want to avoid setting unrealistic expectations or making promises they can’t keep.

In a gesture of goodwill towards their community, Paradox is offering refunds for pre-orders. It suggests that the release date is so uncertain that the company feels obligated to give customers the option to back out.

If you don’t know, Prison Architect 2 is a fully 3D private prison construction and management simulation video game initially developed by Double Eleven and Kokku.

However, on May 13, 2024, Double Eleven backed out from the project because they could not reach a commercial agreement with Paradox, leaving Kokku as the sole developer.

Despite these setbacks, Paradox remains optimistic about the future of “Prison Architect 2.” They’ve expressed confidence in the game’s potential, mentioning exciting new ideas they’re eager to share with players.

It’s interesting to see whether Prison Architect 2 will see the light of day or we will see another Paradox game going into the dustbin.
