Polish game developer CD Projekt Red has officially announced that Project Polaris—commonly referred to as The Witcher 4—has entered full-scale production. This announcement was made during the company’s recent financial report, marking a key milestone in the development of the next chapter in The Witcher series.

Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Another milestone for the next Witcher game completed! Congratulations to the whole Team! I’m proud to see how you’ve progressed over time. Entering the production stage of Polaris is an important step on our path to deliver the game and our long term strategic goals.”

The Witcher 4 Updates

Originally announced in March 2022The Witcher 4 is designed as the first installment in a new trilogy. CD Projekt has clarified that Geralt of Rivia’s story has concluded in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but fans were thrilled when Geralt’s voice actor, Doug Cockle, revealed he will appear in the game, albeit not as the main character. The teaser image released for the game hints that Ciri could take center stage, as her story.

The game developed using Unreal Engine 5, represents a major technological step for CD Projekt Red. Despite the scale of innovation, the release is not expected until 2025 at the earliest.

Team and Other Project

Out of CD Projekt Red’s 650 employees, around 400 are currently focused on The Witcher 4. Other projects in development include Orion (the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077), Sirius (a multiplayer Witcher spinoff by The Molasses Flood), and Hadar (a new intellectual property).

In collaboration with Netflix, the developers are also introducing a new animated series for Cyberpunk. Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is set to receive a Mac port in 2025.

CD Projekt Red’s financial results for the third quarter of the 2024-2025 fiscal year revealed both challenges and successes. The company reported sales revenue of 227.5 million PLN ($55.2 million), a decline of 49% from the 442.6 million PLN reported in the same period last year. Net profit also dropped by 61.4% year-over-year to 78.1 million PLN.

Despite these dips, company CFO Piotr Nielubowicz described the results as “very strong,” citing the ongoing success of Cyberpunk 2077, which has sold 30 million copies, and its Phantom Liberty expansion, which has sold over 8 million. The enduring popularity of The Witcher 3 also continues to contribute to the company’s revenue.

As CD Projekt Red looks ahead, its combination of ambitious projects and technological innovation ensures it remains a major player in the gaming industry.
