Xbox Games Showcase 2024: What Can We Expect from Microsoft’s Biggest Event?

Xbox Game Showcase Call of duty

Every year, gamers around the world eagerly await the Xbox Games Showcase, where Microsoft give us updates on its upcoming gaming titles.

This year’s showcase, scheduled for June 9th, 2024, is particularly significant as it will be the first to feature games from Microsoft’s recently acquired studios, including Activision, Blizzard, and Bethesda.

While Microsoft has remained tight-lipped about specific game reveals, we can speculate on some highly anticipated titles that might make an appearance:

Call of Duty: Black Ops (2024)

The orange-black iconography in Microsoft’s announcement image has fueled speculation that we might get a glimpse of the next Call of Duty: Black Ops game in showcase.

Developed by Treyarch, it’s not only the first CoD game released under the Xbox umbrella but also the one that has had the longest development time in the franchise’s history.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War may be announced prior to the showcase, fans can expect to get an in-depth look at the game during the event itself.

Moreover, insiders have teased that the showcase might also be used to announce the debut of Call of Duty games on Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers access to the entire iconic first-person shooter franchise.

Perfect Dark

After years of speculation, we might finally get a proper look at the highly anticipated reboot of the 2000s Perfect Dark franchise, developed by The Initiative.

The project was first announced at The Game Awards 2020; however, there has been minimal information released about it since then.

Fable

Playground Games’ revival of the beloved Fable series has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement back in 2020.

Fable was featured at last year’s Games Showcase event, where fans were treated to another cinematic trailer that included the first glimpses of gameplay. The trailer showcased British writer, actor, and comedian Richard Ayoade.

State of Decay 3

After a four-year hiatus since its initial announcement, State of Decay 3 is expected to make an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.

While specifics are still under wraps, fans of the zombie survival series can finally look forward to a meaty update on the game’s progress.

Gears of War 6

Rumors indicate that Gears of War 6 may soon offer the first glimpses of its development at next showcases, as momentum builds following recent hires by the developer, The Coalition.

The game has the potential to be as impactful for the Xbox Series X/S as the original Gears of War was for the Xbox 360.

It is rumored to feature an open-world experience and is potentially slated for a 2026 release, which would mark the longest interval between mainline Gears games.

Fans are eagerly speculating about the fate of the protagonist, Marcus Fenix.

What About Third-Party Partners?

Microsoft has promised that the showcase will also feature titles from its third-party partners.

This could mean exciting reveals from major publishers like EA, Ubisoft, and Square Enix, among others.

But that’s not all! With Microsoft’s recent acquisitions, we can expect surprises from iconic franchises like Overwatch, Diablo, and even a potential new entry in The Elder Scrolls series.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 will be available for live streaming on various platforms, including YouTube.com/Xbox, on June 9th at 10 AM PT.
