Electronic Arts (EA) is preparing to bring back two beloved classics as The Sims franchise approaches its 25th birthday. According to Kotaku, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 will be re-released on PC on January 31, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m. ET.
This announcement is particularly significant because these games have been unavailable for years. The original Sims never had a digital release, while The Sims 2’s Ultimate Collection was removed from Origin in 2018. Now, fans will have the chance to experience these classics again, complete with their expansion packs.
The Sims 1 package will include seven expansion packs:
- Livin’ Large
- House Party
- Hot Date
- Vacation
- Unleashed
- Superstar
- Makin’ Magic
The Sims 2 will be even more comprehensive, featuring eight expansion packs and nine stuff packs, though the specific details haven’t been revealed yet.
Adding weight to these reports, EA has been dropping subtle hints during the Sims’ Nostalgia Now Week, which runs from January 27–31. The official Sims website and social media accounts have featured classic imagery, including a Sims 1 character and The Sims 2’s radial menu. In a teaser video, the iconic spinning Plumbob transitions through visuals from The Sims 1, 2, and even a nod to The Sims 3.
Interestingly, EA quietly updated The Sims 3 earlier this month for the first time in 15 years. While Kotaku’s report doesn’t confirm plans for The Sims 3, the update has fueled speculation about further efforts to improve compatibility for older titles.
These re-releases are part of a larger celebration for the franchise’s 25th anniversary. EA has planned several events, including a 25-hour livestream celebration on February 4, 2025. The Sims 4 players will also receive a big free anniversary update containing over 70 new items and a limited-time event.
