The Esports World Cup 2024 x Counter Strike 2 (CS2) Tournament: Format, Invited Teams All We Know So Far

The Esports World Cup (EWC) is one of the biggest esports events scheduled for this summer, taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The main attraction of the event is the newly launched game Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), which will be the primary title featured at the tournament.

However, the event will also include over 10 other gaming titles, making it a diverse and exciting showcase of the best in competitive gaming.

CS2 Format:

Apart from the traditional CS2 format, EWC brings the new format which includes 15 teams (14 Invited +1 Reginal Hero Qualifier Winner) battling out in 3 stages to win the trophy.

Stage 1 (Opening match):

  • 14 teams will participate in this top bracket (9 Invitee and 5 Qualified teams).
  • The top 7 will advance to the playoffs.
  • All matches will be best-of-three (BO3).
  • The remaining 7 teams will drop down to the lower “Resurrection” bracket.

Resurrection:

  • It is a kind of lower-basket
  • 8 teams, including the 7 losers from Stage 1 and 1 regional hero qualifier winner, compete in a single elimination bracket.
  • All matches will be BO1
  • 1 winner from the resurrection bracket advances to the playoffs.

Playoffs:

  • 8 teams in total, comprising the 7 winners from Stage 1 and the 1 winner from the resurrection bracket, compete in a single elimination playoff bracket.
  • All matches will be BO3

The overall tournament structure includes an opening match, a resurrection bracket, and a playoff bracket, which will lead us to the Grand Finale where we will see the first Counter-Strike 2 World Champion at EWC.

Invited Teams:

The 9 CS2 teams that have received invitations to the Esports World Cup 2024 have been revealed on the official X of EWC.

3 Region’s Top World Ranking Team:

  • Europe: FaZe Clan
  • North America: Complexity Gaming
  • South America: FURIA Esports

5 Top Global World Ranking Teams:

  • Team Vitality
  • MOUZ
  • FaZe Clan
  • G2 Esports
  • Outsiders

These invited teams have earned their spots through their impressive performances in recent tournaments, such as IEM Katowice 2024 and PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.

They will be joined by 6 additional teams (5 for the Stage 1 opening match + 1 at Resurrection Stage) that will be determined through regional qualifiers taking place in the last week of April for 6 Regions:

  • Europe
  • North America
  • South America
  • Oceania
  • Asia
  • The Middle East – Regional Hero Qualifier slot for Resurrection Stage
