After a week of intense competition, SONIQS has claimed the World Champion title at the PUBG: Battlegrounds Esports World Cup 2024.
The American side defeated Petrichor Road, the formidable Chinese squad, by just a narrow four-point lead and won $700,000 prize money along with 1,000 Club Points for the club.
This year’s edition saw 24 elite teams from around the world gather in Riyadh, competing for a share of the $2 million prize pool—the largest in the history of PUBG esports.
The grand final, held on August 24-25, consisted of 12 rounds, with the winner determined by the total points accumulated.
SONIQS’ Path to Victory
Despite a rocky start, where SONIQS placed 20th in their opening game, the team quickly found their rhythm.
In the subsequent rounds, they consistently finished in the top 10, including a notable win in Round 6.
This momentum carried them through to the end of the tournament, culminating in a dominant performance across 12 games, and finished at the top with 113 points.
The Standout Teams: Petrichor Road and FaZe Clan
While SONIQS dominated, other teams put up a fierce fight. Petrichor Road trailed by just four points, while FaZe Clan finished only five points behind them.
TSM secured fourth place with a score just six points shy of FaZe, and KWANGDONG FREECS rounded out the top five, trailing TSM by 12 points.
The tight competition among the top teams made for an exhilarating grand final, with margins narrowing as teams battled for supremacy.
