Rockstar Games Takes No-Nonsense Approach to Combat Cheaters in GTA Online

Recently, Rockstar Games appears to be taking a firm stance against cheaters in Grand Theft Auto Online (GTA Online).

What is the Account Duplication Exploit?

According to reports from Twitter/X user ClassiqueGTA, Rockstar Games is handing out bans and permanent account suspensions to players exploiting the account duplication exploit in GTA Online.

This exploit allows players to create an exact copy (1:1 duplicate) of another player’s data, enabling them to rapidly progress through the ranks and gain an unfair advantage.

Permanent account suspensions are being ditched out for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The suspensions are due to the account duplication exploit, allowing players to copy another user’s data 1:1. This is why you saw a lot of accounts in Rank 7984.#GTAOnline pic.twitter.com/Kjpk5HtM8s

Rockstar’s Strict Measures Against Cheaters

To combat this exploit, Rockstar is taking a no-nonsense approach by permanently suspending accounts of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users who are caught taking advantage of the exploit.

It’s worth noting that receiving a ban will not automatically cancel your GTA+ subscription, and you will still be charged if you fail to cancel it manually.

The Importance of Combating Cheating in GTA Online

While cheating may be slightly less rampant on console platforms compared to PC, it’s commendable to see Rockstar Games actively monitoring and addressing these issues in GTA Online.

With the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI expected to release in 2025 and already being referred to as the “most important thing to ever release in the industry” by analyst Mat Piscatella, maintaining a fair and enjoyable online experience is crucial for the franchise’s longevity.
