The New Maximum Entertainment: A Gaming Powerhouse Formed

Previously operating as four separate publishers (Maximum Games, Modus Games, Just For Games, and Merge Games), Maximum Entertainment recently consolidated all of these brands and studios under one unified banner.

With the vision of One Name – One Company – one Portfolio – One Bright Future, the company wants better integration and a more focused approach to moving forward.

The company has published over 300 games to date, with development support from internal studios like Modus Studios.

Despite the gaming industry’s well-documented struggles in 2022 and 2023, Maximum Entertainment increased its EBITDA by an impressive 40% year-over-year.

Part of Maximum’s strategy is maintaining a balanced portfolio approach – they don’t want to put all their eggs in one basket with a single potential hit game.

Around 65 of the 100+ games on the 2024 slate are smaller “sub-publishing” titles, while the rest are being developed internally with bigger budgets and ownership of the IP.

The goal is to grow Maximum Entertainment’s revenue share from owned intellectual properties to 30% by 2025 (up from just 10% in 2023).

This allows for more long-term franchising opportunities across games, movies, TV shows and more.

On top of all that, Maximum remains one of the few publishers still invested in physical game releases for retail alongside digital distribution.

With the physical gaming market contracting, they view this as an opportunity to double down.
