Exciting news for PC gamers – an unofficial Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC port is already in development and looking great in early testing.
Thanks to modders reverse-engineering a leaked dev build, Spider-Man is swinging onto PCs ahead of the official port.
Modder group PC_Focus recently showcased footage of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC port running smoothly at 60 FPS.
Given the mod is still in extremely early stages, this gameplay is seriously impressive.
A Promising Start for the Ambitious PC Port
Despite lacking textures and UI elements right now, the core gameplay of web-slinging through a barren New York City is fully functional.
The mod has Spider-Man’s movement and combat animations in place along with basic environmental reactions.
For a port mod cooked up in just a few weeks, this proof of concept indicates a surprisingly complete recreation of Insomniac’s PlayStation engine is achievable.
If development continues, this fan-made port could replicate the entire PS5 experience on PC.
Of course, lots of polish, bug-fixing and content additions are still required.
But the progress so far shows this is no mere tech demo.
This is a labor of love by modders for fellow Spidey fans.
Will Sony Allow the Mod to Release Publicly?
Here’s where things get tricky.
Since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Sony’s exclusive intellectual property, releasing the mod widely may run afoul of copyright law.
Sony also likely intends to launch an official PC port themselves in the future, as they’ve done with other PlayStation exclusives lately.
This unofficial mod could undercut that strategy.
Early social media uploads of the mod gameplay have already been removed.
So while development may continue privately, don’t expect this PC port mod to ever be downloadable for all.
What’s the Status of the Official PC Port?
For now, playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC requires owning a PS5.
But an official PC port is coming eventually.
Recent Insomniac leaks point out that the dev already working on the PC port.
And it will be released sometime after April 2024, likely tying in with Sony’s fiscal year plans.

Past instances, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales eventually make their way to PC.
If the trend continues, an official PC release of SM2 might be on the horizon.
Insomniac’s ports take time but always deliver quality.
This leaked dev build mod means PC players can at least get an early taste of Spidey’s urban web-slinging well before the official port arrives.
But restraints on distributing the mod widely will likely apply.
