Hellblade 2

According to the latest rumors, Hellblade 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, may be making its way to the PlayStation 5.

This speculation has reignited the ongoing debate surrounding Xbox’s new strategy of bringing some of its games to rival platforms, including PlayStation.

Initially, rumors started circulating in January/February about Xbox-owned studio Ninja Theory‘s exclusives being released multi-platform, including major games like Starfield and Indiana Jones.

Now the latest claim from Infinity Xbox Podcast insider Riskit4theBiskit affirmed the rumor with four separate sources that Hellblade 2 is indeed getting a PS5 port.

According to Riskit4theBiskit, Xbox plans to bring Hellblade 2 and Starfield to PlayStation 5.

However, Windows Central’s Jez Corden and many other gaming websites swiftly refuted this claim, adding to the confusion surrounding the game’s exclusivity.

Can confirm that as of right now, this is completely false.

Last month, Xbox announced four exclusive titles for PS5, with Pentiment already released and Grounded, HI-FI Rush, and Sea of Thieves to follow.

Why Would Xbox Bring Hellblade 2 to PS5?

The rationale behind this potential move is rooted in Xbox’s desire to expand the reach of its games and recoup development costs more effectively.

By releasing Hellblade 2 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox could potentially tap into a broader audience and generate additional revenue from game sales.

Moreover, with the game set to launch on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft may be seeking to elevate the game’s profile and sales by making it available on multiple platforms.

Phil Spencer’s Stance: Keeping Options Open

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has been always vague about the company’s exclusivity strategy.

While he initially ruled out Starfield and Indiana Jones as potential multi-platform releases, he has since declined to categorize any game as sacred enough to remain exclusive to Xbox.

In Spencer’s own words,

“I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform.”

This stance has fueled speculation that every Xbox exclusive, past, present, and future, could potentially make its way to other platforms, including PlayStation.

While we can’t confirm or deny the Hellblade 2 rumors (yet), it’s clear that Xbox is shaking things up with their multiplatform approach.

Hellblade II is set to release on May 21st on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
