With Insomniac Games officially announcing a Wolverine game for PlayStation, fans have been buzzing with excitement and speculation about its potential connection to the Spider-Man 2 universe. A subtle reference to “Earth-1048” in the Wolverine teaser trailer initially sparked these theories. Now, Spider-Man 2 director Bryan Intihar has confirmed in an interview with IGN that both games indeed share the same universe.
A Shared Marvel Universe
During the interview, Intihar stated, “They’re all 1048,” solidifying the connection between the two games. This confirmation suggests an interconnected Marvel gaming world, with Spider-Man and Wolverine potentially sharing narratives or crossover moments in future releases. Such a revelation not only excites fans but also opens up countless storytelling possibilities.
Spider-Man 2’s setting in the Earth-1048 universe was previously acknowledged in Across the Spider-Verse, adding further credibility to the shared timeline theory. However, when asked about more Wolverine teasers in Spider-Man 2, Intihar made it clear that the Wolverine team is being given full creative freedom. He said, “Let’s let the Wolverine team cook, and if something ever happens in the future, great.”
Hints and Future Possibilities
While direct connections between Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine remain scarce, Spider-Man 2 does include a subtle nod to Wolverine. These minor references keep fans hopeful about a larger crossover in the future. The Wolverine teaser from 2021 showcased hints of an intense narrative and immersive gameplay, setting high expectations for what Insomniac has in store.
The last standalone Wolverine game was released back in 2009, and with modern gaming technology, fans are eagerly anticipating how Insomniac will reimagine the character.
