Recent reports suggest that the legendary God of War series might be trading Norse realms for Egyptian sands in its next installment. According to entertainment insider Daniel Richtman (via his Patreon) and noted by Insider Gaming, Sony is currently seeking Middle Eastern actors for an unannounced AAA game project, which many believe could be the next chapter in Kratos’ journey.
This potential shift to Egyptian mythology wouldn’t come as a complete surprise to longtime fans. The series has already demonstrated its ability to successfully transition between different mythological settings, having moved from its Greek origins to the Norse realms in the 2018 reboot. Interestingly, Egypt was actually the first choice for that reboot, as revealed by creative director Cory Barlog at Devcom 2018.
Barlog shared an early concept for the 2018 game that painted a vivid picture: Kratos trudging through sweeping desert landscapes, with an ancient city rising majestically from the sand dunes. The team even created concept art showing Kratos and his son facing off against a mighty Sphinx, before ultimately choosing to explore Norse mythology instead.

The God of War series has already planted several Egyptian Easter eggs throughout its recent games. Players who explored Tyr’s Temple in the 2018 release discovered various Egyptian artifacts, while Ragnarök featured an Ankh as a collectible treasure with its own Codex entry. The recent Valhalla DLC even showed the character Tyr wielding Egyptian Khopesh blades during his battle with Kratos.
However, it’s important to approach this news with caution. While the casting call information is interesting, there’s no official confirmation that it’s connected to God of War. Sony Santa Monica Studio, the developer behind the series, has not made any announcements about their next project.
Additionally, a LinkedIn job posting back in September by Santa Monica Studio mentioned a “next-generation narrative combat game,” suggesting the project might still be in its early development stages. If true, we may not see this new installment until after 2027, potentially coinciding with the rumored PS6 release window.
The timing of these reports is interesting, especially following Sony’s cancellation of a God of War multiplayer game in development at Bend Studios. While rumors continue to swirl, only time will reveal what’s next for Kratos and the series.
