Octopath Traveler I & II (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 5

Octopath Traveler

The original game was launched in July 2018 on Nintendo Switch and later expanded to PC, Stadia, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and now on PlayStation 5 in June 2024.

The game garnered generally positive reviews for its presentation, music, and battle system, although its narrative received a mix of reactions.

Its sequel, Octopath Traveler II, came out in 2023 and is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The gameplay revolves around exploring a massive world and engaging in turn-based combat with a unique “Break and Boost” system.

Players can choose one of eight characters with distinct jobs and abilities, recruiting the others along the way to form their party.

Each character has a special “Path Action” that allows them to interact with NPCs in different ways, such as challenging them to battles or acquiring items.

Battles employ a strategic system where enemies have shield points and weaknesses that must be exploited to “break” them, leaving them vulnerable to increased damage.

Players can also spend “Boost Points” to enhance their attacks or abilities, adding an extra layer of depth to the combat mechanics.

With its stunning “HD-2D” visuals, captivating character stories, and engaging gameplay systems, Octopath Traveler offers an immersive and rewarding RPG experience.

Launched on PC via Steam in 2022, this genre-bending title aims to offer a unique and immersive gaming experience.

At its core, the game invites players to create their own investigator and embark on a journey of free exploration, investigation, and decision-making.

With a tabletop RPG-inspired system, attributes and choices shape the narrative, leading to multiple endings and branch routes.

Strategic combat breaks away from traditional templates, allowing players to create their own worlds through flexible options.

The game supports up to 48 players on PC and 40 on consoles.

Players can choose from 6 classes with each having unique weapons, gear, and abilities like the Officer class can mark targets with flares and then call in support like artillery, gas, and bombers over field phones.

The gameplay has players exploring levels, gathering resources, and fighting off the biophage enemies from a third-person perspective while piecing together audio logs to unravel the dark secrets about Jacob’s captors and illness.
