Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Game Director Has Reportedly Left Bioware

Corinne Busche, the game director of Dragon Age The Veilguard

Corinne Busche, the game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has reportedly left BioWare after an impressive 18-year career with Electronic Arts (EA). This news comes just a few months after the release of the latest Dragon Age installment, which launched in October 2024.

Gaming journalist Jeff Grubb first broke the news on social media, confirming Busche’s departure while also addressing rumors about BioWare’s future. According to Grubb, while Busche’s exit is confirmed, speculation about the potential closure of BioWare’s Edmonton studio appears unfounded. He specifically noted that there was “nothing solid” to support rumors about the studio’s closure.

Busche’s journey at EA has been remarkable, spanning nearly two decades of gaming innovation. Starting her career with the company in 2006, she worked her way up through various roles, contributing to popular franchises like Tiger Woods Golf and The Sims. Her career progression led her to increasingly senior positions, culminating in her appointment as game director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard in February 2022.

Under Busche’s leadership, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the fourth major entry in the beloved fantasy series, introduced players to the role of Rook, a new hero tasked with defending the magical world of Thedas. The game features vast wilderness areas, intricate labyrinths, and magnificent cities, all while telling a story about ancient gods threatening the world’s peace.

However, The Veilguard’s reception has been somewhat mixed compared to its predecessors. While still receiving generally favorable reviews with an 82 on Metacritic, it didn’t quite reach the same heights as earlier entries like Origins and Inquisition, which both scored in the mid-80s. Some players and critics pointed to certain creative choices, the game’s art style, and narrative depth as areas of contention.

Busche’s departure follows another recent high-profile exit from BioWare, as veteran writer Sylvia Feketekuty, known for creating memorable characters like Josephine and Emmrich, left the studio last month after 15 years of service.

In recent developments, BioWare has announced plans to release The Veilguard’s character creator as a standalone feature, though the studio has indicated that earlier Dragon Age games are unlikely to receive remasters.
