Until Dawn Remake Developer Ballistic Moon Has Effectively Closed

Ballistic Moon until down

Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the recent Until Dawn remake, has “effectively closed,” according to multiple sources.

The UK-based developer had previously announced layoffs in September 2024, stating on LinkedIn that it “needed to significantly scale down to protect the studio’s future.” However, the situation appears to have worsened considerably since then.

According to Insider Gaming, approximately 40 employees were let go during those initial September cuts. Then, around 20 more developers were quietly laid off in December. These additional job losses weren’t publicly announced by the company.

Reports further claim that only the studio’s founders remain, with possibly a handful of employees at most. The entire PR, marketing, and development teams are reportedly gone.

People are sharing bugs they’ve found in the game to make the team aware, but there is no one working on patch support for the game anymore,” one source told Insider Gaming. “The studio has effectively closed now.”

Ballistic Moon’s leadership tried to secure new projects and funding, but discussions with Sony “never came to fruition.”

As of now, Ballistic Moon’s leadership hasn’t released an official statement about the studio’s status. Technically, the studio remains active in name only. If new funding were to materialize, the company could potentially restart hiring, but currently, no development work is being done.

These closures add to the troubling trend of layoffs throughout the games industry. In just the first two months of 2025, over 1,200 developers have lost their jobs. Recent cuts have affected numerous studios, including Fizbin, WB Games, Ubisoft, NetEase Games, Night School Studio, and Striking Distance.

The Until Dawn remake was released in October 2024, just weeks before the reported second round of layoffs at the studio.
