As the League of Legends pro scene gears up for its first major international tournament of 2024, all eyes are on the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) in China.
Riot Games has unveiled exciting changes to the format and stakes, promising an electrifying event that will captivate audiences worldwide.
What’s New at the LoL MSI 2024?
- Direct Qualification Spot to Champion: For the first time, the MSI 2024 champion will secure a coveted spot at the World Championship later this year in London, bypassing the grueling regional Summer playoffs.
- Extra Seeds at Worlds: Moreover, the two top-performing regions at MSI will receive an additional seed each for the 2024 World Championship in London.
New Tournament Format
Riot Games has unveiled a revamped format for MSI 2024, featuring a total of 12 (8 in Play-in Stage + 4 remaining top seed team) teams from various regions.
Here’s how the tournament will unfold:
Play-In Stage (May 1-5)
- 8 teams split into two Bo3 double-elimination brackets
- Second seeds from major regions like LPL, LCK, LCS, LEC
- Reps from LLA, CBLOL, PCS, and VCS
- Top two teams from each bracket advance
Bracket Stage (May 7-12 & May 14-18)
- The four teams that advance from the Play-In Stage will join the remaining four competitors: the top-seeded teams from LCK, LPL, LEC, and LCS.
- Compete in a Bo5 double-elimination bracket
Grand Finals (May 19)
- The two finalists clash in a bo5 series to determine the MSI 2024 champion
The MSI 2024 Draw Show will be held after the LPL Finals on April 20th.
Tickets
The LoL MSI 2024 will take place at the iconic Chengdu Financial City Performing Arts Center in Chengdu, China from May 1st to May 19th.
Fans can secure their tickets for the live event starting April 2, with prices ranging from $39 for the play-ins to $190 for the Grand Finals.
