BMW M Motorsport Dominates ESL R1 at Esports World Cup 2024

BMW M Team Redline emerged as the dominant force in Rennsport’s ESL R1 event at the Esports World Cup 2024.

They showcased exceptional performance in this new sim racing esports competition, winning both the drivers’ and teams’ championships.

On Thursday, their driver Kevin Siggy won the drivers’ championship, earning a prize of €25,000. Not only that, but their other drivers, Sebastian Job and Luke Bennett, took 2nd and 4th positions, winning $18,000 and $10,000, respectively.

Carrying this momentum into Sunday, they headed into the Teams Championship and delivered exactly what they came for—a solid win that awarded them a substantial €140,000 and 1,000 club points.

The three BMW M teams prepared for the Esports World Cup with a joint training week at Formula Medicine in Viareggio, Italy. This intensive preparation, which mirrored the training program of real BMW M Motorsport drivers, played a crucial role in their success. BMW M Motorsport’s Head, Andreas Roos, emphasized the value of this preparation, stating,

“Virtual motorsport has played an important role for us for years. It’s fantastic that our teams were able to reward themselves for their hard work at the Esports World Cup.”

Viewership

Despite the event’s grandeur and significant prize pool, Rennsport’s ESL R1 2024 Spring event at the Esports World Cup attracted a relatively low viewership. The event garnered over 110k viewers across nearly 27 hours of broadcast, with peak viewership ranging between 5,000 to 6,000 as per the Esports Charts.

The underwhelming performance is likely due to the game still being in its beta phase, as the Esports World Cup served as a promotional event for the new title. Rennsport, developed by the German company Competition Company GmbH, promises to deliver the most realistic racing simulation yet, with a probable launch next year.
