The Evolution Championship Series (EVO), a premier event in the world of competitive fighting games, has officially announced the lineup for its 2025 edition in France.
This reveal, made at Paris Games Week on October 27th, brought excitement and a few surprises for fans and competitors.
Notably, six games have been confirmed for the main stage, while one popular title from previous tournaments was left out, sparking discussions among enthusiasts.
The list of games set to headline EVO France 2025 includes:
- Street Fighter 6
- Tekken 8
- Guilty Gear -Strive-
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising
- Fatal Fury: City of Wolves
The inclusion of Dragon Ball FighterZ marks its return after being absent from EVO 2024. This was celebrated with a show match at the announcement event, where Guilty Gear -Strive- producer Ken Miyauchi also made an appearance to talk about the game.
However, the omission of Mortal Kombat 1 from the 2025 roster was the biggest shock. The game was part of EVO 2024 but will not be featured in the France event. This decision has led to speculation about the game’s future at major events like EVO. On a related note, Super Smash Bros. will once again not be part of the tournament.
An interesting addition to the 2025 lineup is Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, a game that has yet to be released to the public and is scheduled for launch in April 2025. Developed and published by SNK, this is the first new entry in the Fatal Fury series in 26 years, following Garou: Mark of the Wolves (1999).
EVO France 2025 is set to be held in Nice from October 10 to 12, marking a significant milestone as the first European EVO event. This expansion into Europe signifies the series’ efforts to reach wider audiences and foster the competitive fighting game scene globally.
Alongside the France event, EVO has announced other international venues for upcoming tournaments. These include Tokyo from May 9 to 11 and Las Vegas from August 1 to 3. An additional event is planned in Los Angeles in February 2025; however, this will be an awards show titled the EVO Awards, focusing on recognizing achievements within the community. Further ahead, EVO also shared plans for a large-scale event in Singapore set for 2026.
