Rocksteady Studios and WB Games have officially announced that the fourth season of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be its last. While its servers will remain operational, the live service game will not receive further support or content from the developer.
Season 4 launch on December 10, 2024, brings Deathstroke as a playable character, alongside Episode 7 of the game’s storyline. The final chapter, Episode 8, is scheduled for release on January 14, 2025, and will feature the ultimate confrontation with Brainiac, a villain who players have been fighting across multiple multiversal versions throughout the game’s lifecycle.
Deathstroke will be the fourth post-launch character added to the game, following The Joker, Mrs. Freeze, and Lawless.
The update also introduces the long-awaited offline mode, allowing players to experience the seasonal content of the game, including the main story campaign and all the seasonal story missions, without needing to be online. Additionally, Rocksteady has ensured that all earned and purchased cosmetics will be available in offline mode. However, players will need to either create a fresh profile to start the game anew or duplicate their current profile to maintain their existing progress in offline mode.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League initially launched in February 2024 but received mixed reviews and underwhelming sales performance. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav described the game’s commercial results as “disappointing,” noting a substantial $200 million impact on the company’s gaming division earnings. Post-launch DLC content has similarly struggled to gain traction, and the game has been heavily discounted and even given away for free in some cases.
Despite being set in the beloved Arkhamverse, Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad was met with backlash for its live-service model, overall tone, and its portrayal of iconic DC heroes like Batman, Superman, and The Flash. However, through its episodic content updates, the game brought back some of these heroes via multiverse storylines.
While some narrative threads remain unresolved, players are hopeful that the fourth and final season will provide the satisfying conclusion they’ve been waiting for.
Interestingly, this news comes shortly after Ubisoft announced the shutdown of its free-to-play shooter XDefiant in 2025 following its fourth season.
