Zenless Zone Zero, the hit action RPG from HoYoverse, is officially making its way to Xbox platforms. The news was first teased on April 1st through the game’s official social media channels, sparking skepticism due to the timing. However, HoYoverse has since confirmed the announcement is real — with more details coming during an Xbox Spotlight livestream on April 12th at 6PM UK / 1PM EDT / 7PM CET.
This move brings Zenless Zone Zero to yet another platform, expanding its already broad reach. The game originally launched globally on July 4th, 2024, and is currently available on PC (via HoYo Player and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android.
A Strong Debut Across the Board
Zenless Zone Zero has enjoyed a highly successful launch since day one. The game surpassed 50 million downloads across all platforms in its first month, with 5.9 million mobile installs recorded just days after launch. On release day, it topped free download charts globally, according to AppMagic.
Revenue-wise, the title made a strong showing, generating $3.7 million on mobile within its first 24 hours. While this fell behind HoYoverse’s other blockbusters — Genshin Impact ($4.6M) and Honkai: Star Rail ($8.3M) — it still marked a robust debut. By January 2025, the game had surpassed $250 million in lifetime mobile revenue.
Zenless Zone Zero holds a solid Metacritic score of 76/100 based on 34 reviews. Outlets like IGN praised it for its “exhilarating, approachable combat” and “captivating culture,” giving it an 8/10. However, some critics pointed out the game’s reliance on gacha mechanics and momentum-slowing puzzle segments as drawbacks.
Set in the post-apocalyptic city of New Eridu, the game centers around controlling a team of three “Agents” in fast-paced, real-time combat. Each agent brings a unique skillset to the battlefield, and combat is enhanced by “Bangboos”, robotic companions that assist in battle with support skills.
Players explore both the bustling streets of New Eridu and randomized, puzzle-filled dungeons called “Hollows.” Outside of combat, the game offers side activities like arcade-style challenges and character bonding events, adding variety to the core gameplay loop.
Recently, Zenless Zone Zero made headlines after two of its voice actors were suddenly recast amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike over AI usage in games. However, HoYoverse’s response has been limited, leaving Sound Cadence to offer the closest thing to an official stance.
