Microsoft Combines Xbox Game Pass App Functions with Xbox App

To streamline the Xbox gaming experience, Microsoft has announced plans to merge all Xbox Game Pass mobile app features into the standalone Xbox app.

This update will allow users to manage their Game Pass memberships and browse the entire Game Pass library directly through the Xbox app.

Game Pass subscribers, including those with the Ultimate tier, will benefit from this update as they will be able to claim special perks within the app.

The new version of the app is now available for beta testing, with a broader release expected soon.

Beyond the new Game Pass functionalities, the Xbox app will continue to offer its existing features including:

  • Chatting with friends
  • Remotely installing games
  • Remote play functionality
  • Access to game captures

Microsoft has not provided an exact date for when the Xbox app will fully integrate all Game Pass app features. However, the company has shared that starting in November, the Xbox Game Pass app will no longer be available for new downloads.

This move is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to simplify its mobile app ecosystem by combining functionalities into a single app. According to a statement from Microsoft, “These updates will be available for Xbox beta members on mobile and will be coming to everyone soon.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft continues to face challenges related to cloud gaming on mobile platforms. Due to ongoing disputes between Microsoft and Apple, users are still unable to stream games directly through the Xbox app on iOS and Android. Those looking to stream games to their phones, have to go through a mobile browser at xbox.com/play.

These mobile app changes came shortly after Microsoft introduced its new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier. Priced at $14.99 per month, this plan includes 100+ games and multiplayer gaming on consoles. Before that, Xbox also increased Game Pass prices with the Ultimate tier increased from $17 to $20 per month.

Microsoft also revealed a lineup of new games to join the Game Pass soon. Some of these will be Day 1 releases including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Avowed.
