Microsoft appears to be bringing more of its beloved Xbox exclusive games to Sony’s PlayStation 5.
According to Jez Corden of Windows Central, highly anticipated games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition are rumored to launch on PS5 in 2025.
Additionally, industry insider NateDrake has suggested that Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are also heading to the PS5 (as well as Switch 2). While Halo is expected to arrive in 2025, the remastered Gears of War might make its debut as early as this year.
These iconic games, historically associated with the Xbox brand, represent a potential milestone in gaming collaboration and cross-platform availability.
Interestingly, this shift isn’t one-sided. NateDrake also claimed that Sony’s exclusive titles, such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, are expected to launch on Xbox platforms in 2025 and 2026, respectively. This mutual sharing of exclusive games indicates a significant change in how major gaming companies view platform exclusivity.
Jez Corden noted that if these reports prove accurate, Microsoft could see record-breaking revenue from its gaming content this year. “Microsoft will probably make more money from content this year than it ever has,” Corden said. “Microsoft has a vast mountain of first-party content in development, with further unannounced titles for 2025 slated for the Xbox Showcase which typically airs in June.”
This strategic shift aligns with previous moves by Microsoft to bring its games to a wider audience. Titles like Sea of Thieves and Pentiment have already launched successfully on PlayStation, demonstrating the company’s focus on maximizing returns through multi-platform availability. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has frequently emphasized that games capable of generating substantial returns will likely be shared across platforms.
Looking ahead, Microsoft has several exciting announcements planned. The company’s Developer Direct showcase, scheduled for January 23, 2025, will feature upcoming titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Doom: The Dark Ages, and South of Midnight. Additionally, Microsoft is expanding its reach beyond consoles through a partnership with LG Electronics, bringing the Xbox app to LG smart TVs in 2025.
