Is Marvel’s Gaming Universe Expanding? Wolverine, Spider-Man, and… Deadpool?

As the highly anticipated “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie is just a month away from its theatrical release, rumors are swirling about potential crossovers in the world of Marvel gaming.

With Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series already a “”Great Success” for Sony, could we see the Merc with a Mouth joining forces with our favorite web-slinger in the virtual realm?

Let’s dive into the exciting possibilities and recent developments in the Sony-Marvel gaming universe.

Is Deadpool Coming to Insomniac’s Spider-Verse?

Director of Deadpool & Wolverine, Shawn Levy recently expressed his desire to see a team-up between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) on the big screen. In an interview with Total Film, he stated,

“The thing about Deadpool is I think he makes everything more interesting because of his audacity. But, boy, I’d sure love to see Deadpool and Spidey. That’s a movie I’d love to make.”

While this statement primarily refers to a potential film collaboration, it opens up exciting possibilities for the gaming world as well.

With Insomniac Games already establishing itself as a “Marvel gaming powerhouse,” the inclusion of Deadpool in their Spider-Verse could create an epic gaming experience.

According to recent leaks, Insomniac is working on several Marvel games including a Venom game slated for 2025, Wolverine in 2026, Spider-Man 3 in 2028, and an X-Men game in 2030.

And, Bryan Intihar, Senior Creative Director at Insomniac Games, has already confirmed that the upcoming Wolverine and Spider-Man 3 games are set in the same universe, Earth-1048.

This shared universe sets the stage for potential crossovers that could bring together some of the most iconic characters in the Marvel pantheon.

As we have already seen the Venom cameo in the Spider-Man 2 game before it received standalone titles, it’s possible that we might see various X-Men characters in the Spider-Man or Wolverine games as well before a full-fledged X-Men game is released.

And if that character is Deadpool, it could lead to exciting opportunities in the gaming world.

Marvel has already teamed them up in comics with a Spider-Man/Deadpool comic book series that spanned 50 issues from 2016 to 2019, highlighting the interesting relations between these two beloved characters.

Deadpool’s history in gaming is also impressive with 2013’s Deadpool game, developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision, received high praise for its humor, action, and faithfulness to the character. Fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since.

The character’s irreverent humor, fourth-wall-breaking antics, and over-the-top combat style could provide a refreshing contrast to Spider-Man’s acrobatic web-slinging and Wolverine’s brutal claws.

As we eagerly await the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” on July 25 in the UK (July 26 in the US), the possibilities for future gaming crossovers seem endless.

Whether we’ll see Deadpool cracking jokes alongside Spider-Man, a solo Venom adventure, or Silk swinging through New York City, one thing is certain: the future of Marvel gaming is looking brighter than ever.

For the latest updates on these exciting developments, keep an eye on official announcements from Insomniac Games and Marvel.

As always, take leaks and rumors with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.
