According to reports from Puck News, Warner Bros. is allegedly developing a new Batman video game. But here’s the kicker: instead of continuing Rocksteady’s Arkham series, this game will be a standalone game set in the same universe as Matt Reeves’ recent film, “The Batman.”
The Batman was a major hit for Warner Bros. when it was released in 2022. With an impressive 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes and over $770 million in global box office earnings, it was a rare triumph for struggling DCEU at that time.
Given this success, it’s no surprise that the studio is expanding the movie’s universe. A sequel is already in the works set to release on October 2, 2026, and a TV series focused on The Penguin is on the way. Now, a video game is probably being added to this growing list of spin-offs.
As of now, no official announcement has been made. Reports suggest it probably be a single player open world game exploring the Dark Knight’s early days as a vigilante in Gotham City, potentially allowing players to roam the city in a style reminiscent of Arkham Knight.
It’s worth noting that Warner Bros’s last DC game, Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was a disaster and cost the studio over a $200 million loss. However, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros, is still optimistic about its game division and expressed his desire to leverage some of its IPs to other studios in the latest Q2 earning call. There is a possibility that a new Batman game will be made by another studio or could potentially be an incubation project.
This is all speculation now and we have to wait until the official announcement, but just listening to the new Batman game got me chill. Let’s see how things work or not.
Meantime, fans can look forward to Batman: Arkham Shadow, an upcoming VR experience set in the Arkhamverse, slated for release exclusively on Quest 3 headsets later this year.
