Warner Bros. Games has reportedly canceled an unannounced paid DLC for Hogwarts Legacy, which was originally planned as part of a Definitive Edition. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the decision is part of WB Games’ ongoing restructuring efforts.
The expansion was supposed to bring in 10 to 15 hours of new story content, side quests, and extra features that didn’t make it into the original game. It was being developed by Avalanche Software, the studio behind Hogwarts Legacy, with support from Rocksteady Studios, best known for the Batman: Arkham series and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The DLC was reportedly set for a 2025 release but was ultimately scrapped due to concerns that it didn’t have enough content to justify the price, according to Bloomberg’s sources.
Even though the DLC isn’t happening, WB Games is still working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy. Details are scarce, but the company has made it clear that the Harry Potter franchise is a big deal for them—especially considering how successful the first game has been. Since its 2023 launch, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 30 million copies and still shows up on the best-seller lists in the U.S. (15th in February 2025).
WB Games Going Through Major Changes
The Hogwarts Legacy DLC cancellation is just one of many changes happening at WB Games as the company restructures. Earlier this year, multiple studios were shut down, including Monolith Productions—previously working on a Wonder Woman game—along with WB San Diego and Player First Games, the team behind MultiVersus.
There were also layoffs at Rocksteady Studios in late 2024 after the lukewarm reception of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
WB Games is now putting its focus on only 4 big-name franchises like DC, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and Harry Potter. According to Bloomberg, when Warner Bros. talks about DC games internally, it mostly means Batman rather than the whole DC Universe. In line with that, Rocksteady is in the early stages of developing a new Batman: Arkham game, but it’s still a long way from release.
What’s Next for Hogwarts Legacy?
While it’s a bummer that there won’t be more content for Hogwarts Legacy, WB Games has made it clear that the series isn’t going anywhere. Former WB Games president David Haddad called the sequel a “major priority” for the company. Avalanche Software is leading the development again, but it’s still early in production.
A recent job listing hinted at multiple projects at Avalanche Software. One of these is an online multiplayer RPG, which many believe is based on the Harry Potter franchise again. However, no further details were provided.
The cancellation of the DLC highlights WB Games’ shift toward fewer, bigger projects. For now, fans will have to wait and see what’s next for the Hogwarts Legacy series.
