Final Fantasy Mobile Game War of the Visions to Shut Down After Five-Year Run

War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius

Square Enix has announced that the global version of “War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius,” a tactical role-playing game for mobile devices, will cease operations on May 29, 2025. This decision comes after five years since its global release on March 25, 2020.

As of March 25, the sale of in-game currency, Visiore, and special shop items have been discontinued. Players can continue to use their existing Visiore until the game’s closure. Additionally, Android users should be aware that the option to exchange Google Play Points for in-game items will end on April 30, 2025.

“War of the Visions” was designed to offer a grid-based, tactical RPG experience reminiscent of “Final Fantasy Tactics,” expanding upon the universe established in “Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.”

Developed by Gumi and published by Square Enix, the game received praise for its detailed sprite art, extensive job system, and its commitment to the tactical RPG legacy of earlier Final Fantasy titles.

Players explored the continent of Ardra, engaging in a narrative-rich adventure. The game also became known for its regular collaborations with iconic Final Fantasy characters and other Square Enix properties, maintaining player engagement through various crossover events.

Despite these efforts, maintaining player retention and monetization has become increasingly challenging. Square Enix stated that it has become difficult to provide a “satisfactory app experience,” leading to the decision to discontinue the game.

In-game events are scheduled to continue until the shutdown date, allowing players to enjoy the game in its final months. Post-closure, all account data will be deleted in accordance with privacy and data protection guidelines.

The announcement does not mention the Japanese version of the game, which launched in November 2019 and remains active at this time. It is unclear whether the Japanese version will also be discontinued.
