The highly anticipated fantasy action game ‘Tides of Annihilation‘ made an unexpected appearance on the Microsoft Store, despite not having an official release date. The game, which was briefly available for purchase at $22.49, turned out to be an unplayable placeholder file.
Unveiled during the February 2025 State of Play, Tides of Annihilation is being developed by Eclipse Glow Games, a studio comprised of industry veterans who have previously worked on major franchises like Yakuza, Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, and Persona.
The game is set in a dark alternate version of London, where grotesque creatures roam the streets. Players take on the role of Gwendolyn, the last surviving human, as she embarks on a journey to recover the missing Grail Shards and uncover the truth behind the catastrophic event that has devastated the city. Her arsenal includes the ability to summon over 10 legendary knights inspired by Arthurian lore, each bringing unique magical abilities to combat encounters. Baldur’s Gate 3’s Shadowheart actor Jennifer English is the voice behind Gwendolyn.
However, shortly after the State of Play presentation, Xbox users discovered the game listed on the Microsoft Store for $22.49. Those who attempted to purchase it soon realized that the file they downloaded was only 300MB and could not be launched. The listing appeared to be an error, and Microsoft has since taken it down, offering refunds to affected buyers.
While the accidental store listing led to confusion, it also highlighted the strong anticipation surrounding Tides of Annihilation. Fans are now speculating that an official release date announcement could be imminent. So far the developer only confirmed platforms – PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S – but remains tight-lipped about the launch window.
The game was unveiled alongside other major announcements at February’s State of Play, including Secret of the Mimic, Days Gone Remastered, and Borderlands 4.
