The critically acclaimed Chinese visual novel The Hungry Lamb: Travelling in the Late Ming Dynasty has hit a major milestone, selling over 1 million copies on Steam. Publisher 2P Games and developer Zerocreation Game shared the exciting news, celebrating the game’s success just nine months after its release in April 2024. The game’s popularity was further cemented when it climbed to the #2 spot on China’s Indie Game Sales Ranking earlier this year, second only to Black Myth: Wukong.
A Sequel in the Works
Building on this success, Zerocreation Game has announced a sequel titled The Weeping Swan: Ten Days of the City’s Fall. While the Steam page for the sequel hasn’t gone live yet, fans are already buzzing with excitement. The new title promises to expand on the series’ signature combination of historical drama, dark fantasy, and moral complexities.
Set during the late Ming Dynasty, The Hungry Lamb immerses players in a world of chaos marked by political corruption, natural disasters, and rebellion. Players follow Liang, a former merchant-turned-bandit, and his companion Tongue as they escort four young girls to a wealthy lord in Luoyang. However, the mission takes a sinister turn when Sui, one of the girls, reveals their destination harbors a swine demon that has preyed on young girls for centuries.
The game challenges players with tough moral decisions through branching narratives and multiple endings. Should they complete the escort mission or join Sui in her quest for revenge? The Hungry Lamb captivates players with its intricate storytelling, impasto-style visuals, authentic sound design, and voice acting by renowned talents like Hanser and Hua Ling (Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail).
