The PUBG Global Championship (PGC) 2024 has concluded with a historic victory for The Expendables of Vietnam. On December 22, the team claimed the prestigious title in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, becoming the first Vietnamese squad to win the highest-level PUBG tournament.
A Journey to Glory
Representing Vietnam alongside Cerberus Esports, The Expendables entered the tournament as underdogs. Their strong performance during the first two days of competition secured them a spot in the finals, placing them in the top six with 73 points. Despite trailing South Korea’s T1 by 36 points, they staged a remarkable comeback on the final day.
Their brilliance shone through as they won two of the last six games, surging to the top of the leaderboard. In a gripping final match, they faced South Korea’s Kwangdong Freecs. The standout performances of players TanVuu and Clories sealed the victory, delivering a seismic moment for the Vietnamese esports scene.
Championship Highlights
The Expendables finished with 141 points, narrowly beating runners-up Kwangdong Freecs and TSM by just two points. Cerberus Esports, Vietnam’s other representative, finished 18th. The victory earned The Expendables a grand prize of $500,000 and exclusive in-game skins, including outfits and protective gear.
