Tekken 8 has reached an impressive milestone by selling 3 million copies within its first year of release, according to Bandai Namco’s announcement during the recent Tekken Talk Live Season 2 Special event.
The popular fighting game achieved this sales mark faster than its predecessor, Tekken 7, which took approximately one year and three months to reach the same milestone.
The announcement came as Tekken 8 celebrated its first anniversary, having launched on January 26, 2024.
Despite this achievement, Tekken 7 still maintains its position as the series’ best-seller with 12 million copies sold to date.
Compared to other major fighting game releases, Tekken 8’s sales figures place it behind some key competitors. Mortal Kombat 1 has sold 5 million copies in about 16 months, while Street Fighter 6 has reached 4.4 million units by the end of 2024.
However, it surpassed both games in the United States market, where Tekken 8 ranked as the 18th best-selling title for the Year 2024 as per Circana. Neither Street Fighter 6 nor Mortal Kombat1 appeared on the year-end sales charts for 2024.
The Tekken Talk Live event also featured exciting news for fans, as developers revealed Anna Williams as the first DLC character for Season 2. Anna will be available to Character Year 2 Pass owners on March 31, with a general release following on April 3.
Looking ahead, Bandai Namco has outlined an ambitious DLC roadmap for Tekken 8’s second year, including additional characters and stages planned for Summer, Fall, and Winter 2025/2026.
Tekken 8 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.
