On Sunday, Team BDS emerged victorious in the Rocket League grand final at the Esports World Cup 2024, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

They defeated Team Falcons with a 4-2 scoreline, securing the championship trophy with $200,000 prize money and 1,000 club points.

The tournament featured 16 teams divided into four groups, each playing best-of-five matches. The top two teams from each group advanced to the playoffs which was a single-elimination and featured best-of-seven matches.

Journey of Team BDS:

Team BDS, known for their consistent performances in the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS), including a win at the RLCS 2021-2022 World Championship, had a tough start.

They dropped a crucial match to G2 Stride in the group stage, setting up a do-or-die scenario against PWR. However, BDS rose to the occasion, sweeping PWR 3-0 to secure their place in the playoffs.

From there, Team BDS advanced through the playoffs, overcoming Space Station Gaming and Gen.G Mobil1 Racing to reach the grand finals.

Team Falcons’ Impressive Run:

Team Falcons, the hometown favorites, showed dominance throughout the tournament. They did not drop a single map in the group stage or quarterfinals.

Although they lost their first game against G2 Stride in the semifinals, they quickly bounced back to win the series 4-1, earning their place in the grand final.

The Grand Final Highlights:

The grand final began with Team BDS taking an early lead with a 1-0 victory on Mannfield (Night), thanks to a spectacular aerial goal by M0nkey M00n.

Team Falcons quickly responded by winning Forbidden Temple 6-1 and securing a 2-1 overtime win on DFH Stadium.

However, Team BDS regained control with victories on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk) and Aquadome (Salty Shallows), going up 3-2.

They sealed their win with a 2-1 overtime victory on Neo Tokyo, claiming the Championship.

Notable Achievements and Awards:

Joreuz from Chiefs Esports Club was named the MVP of the tournament and earned $50,000. Despite his team’s elimination in the quarterfinals, Joreuz impressed with 10 goals, 51 shots, and 31 saves across three matches.

Additionally, RW9 from Team Falcons won the $50,000 player bounty for the most demolitions at the event.

Prize Pool Distribution:

The Rocket League EWC tournament boasted an impressive $550,000 prize pool which is distributed as follows:

  • 1. Team BDS – $200,000 + 1,000 Esports World Cup Club Championship Points
  • 2. Team Falcons – $80,000 + 600 points
  • 3-4. Gen.G Mobil1 Racing, G2 Stride – $40,000 each + 275 points each
  • 5-8. Chiefs Esports Club, FURIA Esports, Team Vitality, Space Station Gaming – $20,000 each + 60 points each
  • 9-12. Twisted Minds, PWR, Team Secret, Gentle Mates Alpine – $10,000 each
  • 13-16. Limitless, XO Esports, Nkosi Ballers, Gaimin Gladiators – $5,000 each

Rocket League EWC Viewership:

The Rocket League Esports World Cup 2024 attracted a remarkable 972,000 viewers across nearly 27 hours of broadcast as per the Esports Charts.

The grand finals peaked at 99,819 viewers, placing it among the top Rocket League esports events of 2024, alongside RLCS 2024 – Major 2: London and other major qualifiers.
