Tango Gameworks has officially announced its rebranding as ‘Tango Gameworks Inc.’ under its new parent company KRAFTON. This announcement, made through the studio’s social media channels on January 1, 2025, marks their first public communication since the studio faced potential closure in May 2024.
The story of Tango Gameworks’ survival is particularly noteworthy in the gaming industry’s recent turmoil history. In August 2024, KRAFTON, the publishing powerhouse behind successful titles such as PUBG, InZOI, and Dark and Darker, stepped in to acquire the studio just as it faced shutdown under Microsoft’s ownership. This last-minute acquisition not only saved the studio but also secured valuable intellectual property, including the critically acclaimed Hi-Fi Rush.
During the acquisition, KRAFTON made significant commitments to preserve the studio’s creative legacy and future potential. The publisher emphasized its intention to work closely with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition, maintaining the studio’s operational continuity. KRAFTON specifically highlighted their support for the ongoing development of the Hi-Fi Rush IP while encouraging the team to explore new creative ventures.
Tango Gameworks has built an impressive portfolio over the years, having created distinctive titles such as Ghostwire Tokyo and The Evil Within series. These games have demonstrated the studio’s ability to craft unique gaming experiences, particularly in the horror and action genres. Early this year they had massive success with Hi-fi Rush, which had been described as a “breakout hit” by Xbox exec.
Although Tango Gameworks Inc. has not provided specific details about upcoming projects, Maria Park, Krafton’s head of corporate development, previously told GamesIndustry.Biz that developers were already preparing for a sequel to HI-FI Rush before the acquisition. “Yes, the team was working on Hi-Fi Rush 2 when we first met them,” said Park. Park also confirmed Tango’s other IP – Ghostwire: Tokyo and The Evil Within will stay with Microsoft and are not part of Krafton’s acquisition.
