Tales of the Abyss Trademark Filing Hints at Possible Remaster

Tales of the Abyss

Bandai Namco Entertainment has recently filed a new trademark for “Tales of the Abyss,” which was made public on January 24, 2025, on the Chizai Watch platform. This action has led to speculation about a potential remaster of the game, aligning with the company’s ongoing efforts to update classic titles for modern platforms.

The timing of this trademark filing is particularly interesting, as it follows recent comments from Tales of Graces f Remastered Producer Yuki Ishikawa. During an October 2024 interview with IGN, Ishikawa expressed personal enthusiasm for Tales of the Abyss, revealing that his love for the game actually inspired him to join Bandai Namco. This connection adds weight to the possibility of a remaster being in development.

For those unfamiliar with the title, Tales of the Abyss holds a special place in the series as its eighth mainline entry. The game first debuted on PlayStation 2 in Japan on December 15, 2005, before making its way to North American shores in October 2006. The game later found new life on the Nintendo 3DS, launching in Japan in June 2011, followed by releases in Europe and North America in November 2011 and February 2012, respectively.

This potential remaster aligns with Bandai Namco’s broader strategy for the Tales franchise. The company’s dedication to modernizing classic Tales games is evident in their recent release of Tales of Graces f Remastered, which is currently available across multiple platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The company has been systematically bringing beloved Tales titles to modern hardware, with Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Symphonia already receiving successful remaster treatments. Series producer Yusuke Tomizawa confirmed this ongoing commitment in late 2024, announcing the establishment of a dedicated remaster development team to ensure consistent releases of updated Tales titles.

As of now, Bandai Namco has not officially confirmed a remaster of “Tales of the Abyss.”
