Studio Fizbin Announces Closure After Upcoming Game Reignbreaker

Studio Fizbin has announced that its upcoming game, Reignbreaker, releasing on March 18, 2025, will be the company’s final project before shutting down. The German game studio will close its doors this spring after 14 years in the industry.

In a statement shared on the studio’s website, founder and CEO Alexander Pieper explained the situation in frank terms. “Every magic show has an end, and after 14 years of giving it our all, Studio Fizbin will be winding down operations this spring after releasing Reignbreaker,” he wrote.

The closure comes amid challenging times for game developers. Pieper noted that the studio’s parent company Thunderful decided to “drastically reduce internal development” in November 2024, which directly impacted Studio Fizbin’s future. Despite searching for new projects to keep the studio running after Reignbreaker’s completion, none of these opportunities panned out.

We believe it’s going to be the best game we’ve ever released,” Pieper said about Reignbreaker, adding that the team remains committed to launching a quality product and providing post-launch support even as they prepare to close.

Founded in 2011, Studio Fizbin built a reputation for creative, distinctive games. The studio released its debut title The Inner World in 2013, followed by The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk in 2017. Their 2021 was particularly productive, with the release of Say No! More, Minute of Islands, and Lost at Sea. Thunderful acquired the studio in 2023 through its subsidiary Headup.

The gaming industry has faced significant turbulence recently. In just the first two months of 2025, nearly 1,200 developers have reportedly lost their jobs due to cuts and closures across companies like Freejam, Splash Damage, Ubisoft, NetEase Games, and three studios of WB Games.

Looking ahead, Pieper said the studio’s final priorities include ensuring Reignbreaker launches successfully and helping their talented team find new positions elsewhere in the industry.
