Street Fighter 6 Surpassed Four Million Copies in Sales

Capcom recently celebrated a major milestone, announcing that Street Fighter 6 has sold over four million copies since its release in June 2023. This impressive achievement comes just 15 months after the game launched across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.

In a statement, Capcom expressed their gratitude to the community, saying,

“Thank you for playing and for helping us reach this milestone! We hope you’re excited for the future of SF6 as we intend to release more content and hold more events!”

As of 2024, the entire Street Fighter franchise has sold over 55 million copies worldwide, cementing its place as one of Capcom’s best-selling series, second only to Resident Evil (160 million units sold) and Monster Hunter (103 million units sold).

How Does Street Fighter 6 Compare to Previous Titles?

  • Street Fighter 2 (1991): 6.30 million copies sold
  • Street Fighter 2 Turbo (1993): 4.1 million copies sold
  • Street Fighter 4 (2008): 9 million copies sold
  • Street Fighter 5 (2016): 7.60 million copies sold

Capcom has set a high bar for Street Fighter 6, aiming for the game to surpass 10 million copies sold over its lifetime. While it took just seven months to hit the three million mark, it has since added another million in long six months. Despite this slower pace, Capcom remains optimistic, as it’s stated in the last meaning call that the game’s sales are “in line with their expectations.”

How Does Street Fighter 6 Stack Up Against Other Fighting Games?

In the competitive fighting game market, Street Fighter 6 faces stiff competition. For instance, Mortal Kombat 1 recently surpassed four million copies sold since its September 2023 release, continuing Mortal Kombat’s dominance as the top-selling fighting game franchise.

Tekken 8, which launched in January 2024, also made an impact, selling two million copies in its first month.

While Street Fighter 6 is holding its own, the competition from these established franchises remains fierce.

What’s Next for Street Fighter 6?

Looking ahead, Street Fighter 6 is set to introduce even more content to keep players engaged:

  • Season 2 DLC: Featuring new characters Terry and Mai from Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters.
  • Future Releases: Elena, set to join the roster in winter 2025.
  • Additional Content: Capcom has teased even more characters and events on the horizon.

Capcom’s commitment to regular updates, competitive events, and community engagement has been crucial to Street Fighter 6’s ongoing success, ensuring its place in the fighting game spotlight.
