Star Wars: Hunters will be closing its doors permanently on October 1, 2025, with final updates coming this April.

The arena combat game, developed by Zynga in partnership with LucasFilm, appears to have failed to meet expectations despite initial hopes for long-term success.

According to the game’s official blog, the company will disable in-app purchases starting April 15, giving players a 30-day window to maximize their Arena Passes before spending options disappear.

The game’s closure comes surprisingly early in its lifecycle. Star Wars: Hunters only launched on June 4, 2024, for mobile platforms, followed by an Early Access PC release on January 27, 2025. Many players have expressed shock at the announcement, particularly since the game had been positioned as a long-term project.

Industry observers suggest that despite carving out its own niche, Star Wars: Hunters faced steep competition in the crowded live-service gaming market. The hero-based arena combat experience, which drew comparisons to popular titles like Overwatch, seemingly couldn’t maintain the player base or revenue needed to justify continued development.

Players still have several months to enjoy the game before servers go offline. The developers have extended Season 5 by three weeks, during which time they’ll re-run previous events and shop bundles. The current Ranked season will also continue longer than originally planned.

As a final gesture to the community, the April 15 update will introduce a new Support Hunter character named Tuya, who will be available to all players at no additional cost. This represents the last content addition to the game before its eventual shutdown.

The journey to release for Star Wars: Hunters was already challenging, with multiple delays after its initial 2021 announcement. Developers had cited quality concerns as the reason for these postponements. While the game ultimately launched with mixed reviews, many felt it showed potential for growth and improvement.

Reports indicate that Star Wars: Hunters has already been removed from Steam search results, though its web page remains with a notice stating it’s unavailable in the store. The game was previously announced for a full Steam release, which now appears unlikely to materialize.

Star Wars: Hunters joins a growing list of recent live-service game shutdowns, including high-profile titles like Concord and XDefiant. When October arrives, the game’s servers will be taken offline permanently, rendering it unplayable.
